On Saturday, 15 November, City of Canada Bay Mayor Michael Megna will officially open the Council’s $80 million Rhodes Recreation Centre, a landmark moment for the growing Rhodes Peninsula.

Thousands of locals will come through the doors of the Centre to celebrate the official opening and explore the brand-new community facilities.

“We are excited to celebrate the official opening of Rhodes Recreation Centre – the City of Canada Bay’s signature investment in the future of the Rhodes community,” said Mayor Michael Megna.

“With more than 18,000 people expected to call Rhodes home by 2036, the Centre underpins our commitment to providing high-quality community and recreation spaces for local residents.”

Located at 6 Gauthorpe Street, Rhodes, the Centre features a state-of-the-art gym and crèche, indoor sports courts, a gymnastics centre, a community lounge and café, an early learning centre, healthcare providers and more.

To mark the official opening, the City of Canada Bay will host a Grand Opening event for the community from 10am-3pm on Saturday, 15 November.

The event will feature free indoor sports, games, and access to the gym, along with live performances, live music, cultural activities, free craft activities and more.

World champion football trickster Adrian Krog will also showcase his skills in two demonstrations throughout the day.

“Rhodes Recreation Centre is for everyone — we want to see families using the Community Lounge as an extension of their living room, and friends catching up for a throw-around on our courts,” Mayor Megna said.

“We have delivered a modern and inviting space for the community, and now it’s time for everyone to come and celebrate together.”

Mayor Megna will officially declare the Centre open during a plaque unveiling ceremony at 10:30am.
